September 10, 2001, A Night Like Any Other
From the Lloydsville Volunteer Fire Department

Twenty-four years ago, tonight, it was just another quiet evening across America.

Gear was checked. Trucks were cleaned. Radios were tested.
People said goodnight to their families, not knowing what the next day would bring, not knowing that, hundreds of miles away, fellow firefighters, EMS, medical personal, police officers, and thousands of civilians were living their last ordinary moments.

September 11, 2001, changed everything.
It changed how we serve, how we train, how we remember. Most of all, it reminded us why we do what we do.

Tonight, we pause to honor the 343 FDNY firefighters, 60 police officers, 8 paramedics, and thousands of innocent lives lost. We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and their families, not just once a year, but every time we put on the uniform.

Let us never forget the night before.
And let us always remember the day that followed.

🚪🔥 Close Before You Doze – Especially This Cold Season 🔥❄️

As temperatures are starting to drop and we turn to space heaters, fireplaces, and electric blankets to stay warm overnight , the risk of house fires increases significantly. That’s why now more than ever, it’s critical to follow this one simple fire safety tip:

👉 CLOSE YOUR BEDROOM DOOR BEFORE YOU SLEEP.

Below shows the difference a closed door can actually make in a fire situation.

📊 The Life-Saving Stats:

A closed door can reduce fire temperatures from over 1,000°F down to under 100°F.

Most bedroom doors are rated to withstand fire exposure for 20 minutes!

Rooms with open doors can be filled with smoke in under 3 minutes — closed doors can keep smoke out for 20 minutes or more.

50% of all fire-related deaths occur overnight, between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

🚨 With more people using space heaters and wood stoves, the chances of an accidental fire rise. But closing your bedroom door can:
✅ Slow the spread of flames
✅ Block deadly smoke
✅ Give you critical extra time to escape or be rescued

🔥 Cold weather safety tips:
✔️ Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from everything
✔️ Never use stoves or ovens to heat your home
✔️ Always turn off heaters when going to bed
✔️ And most importantly — close your bedroom doors

If you are ever unsure about a set up you have, you can always comment or call us to ask questions and even have us come check it out for you!!
